Register for COVID-19 Vaccine

Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is providing initial vaccinations to those most at risk of exposure to COVID-19. Per the State of Texas guidelines, individuals have been placed in two groups - designated as Phase 1A and 1B. Find out here if you qualify for vaccination based on the current distribution groups.

*This registration app is not compatible with Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge. Please use a different browser. When you have registered to join the waiting list, please allow 15 - 30 minutes for the waitlist confirmation email and text message to arrive after registering.

Become An Outreach Partner

As COVID-19 vaccines have become available, misinformation and vaccine hesitancy are also on the rise. Our goal is to team up with trusted community leaders to educate Harris County residents with facts rooted in science about vaccines. Curious how you can help with community outreach and partnership? Learn more in our COVID-19 Vaccine Information resources.

Join the Waitlist

HCPH currently acts as a safety net provider to community. This means we are proactively seeking those in the Phase 1A and 1B population that do not have apparent networks to access vaccine or are potentially the most vulnerable to COVID-19. If you qualify for the vaccine under the Phase 1A or 1B categories and register through HCPH's vaccine portal, you will be placed on a waitlist for future vaccination appointments rather than simply receiving a notification that no appointments are available.

Based on HCPH's vaccine allocations from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), HCPH will offer a small number of Phase 1A and/or 1B-eligible individuals on this waitlist an opportunity to schedule an appointment when we receive our vaccine shipment each week. Over time, all eligible individuals who have registered through this system - and have not yet received a vaccine elsewhere - will be notified to schedule an appointment for vaccination.

If you do not have Internet access, please register for the waiting list by calling 832-927-8787.

Individuals are selected from the waitlist at random and will be notified by email, text message, and/or phone that an appointment is available.

  • Those who registered online will be provided with a personal link to make an appointment.
  • Those who registered by phone will either be provided with a personal link to make an appointment or HCPH will provide them with an appointment date and time - depending on whether they have Internet access and an email address.

Once notified, you will be given a specified amount of time to make an appointment before the slot is offered to someone else. Those individuals who do not make an appointment within the specified timeframe will simply go back onto the waitlist for a future appointment. Those who have been able to get the vaccine elsewhere will be able to let HCPH know that they no longer need an appointment so can be removed from the waitlist.

Waitlist Guidelines and Eligibility

New sets of appointments will open up with each vaccine shipment received by Harris County Public Health (HCPH). Appointments will only be offered to those waitlisted individuals who are eligible based on the guidelines below. Individuals will be randomly selected from the waiting list and notified via email. You will have 48 hours to schedule your appointment before being placed back on the waitlist.

Priority #1: Phase 1A and 1B - 'Healthcare Workers' and 'People 65 and Older or With Comorbidities'

Priority #2: Future Phases

  • Those who are not qualified to receive the vaccine under 1A or 1B will still be able to register and placed in a queue but will not be contacted to schedule an appointment until the State of Texas expands eligibility beyond 1A and 1B.

Do I Qualify?

Distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine is currently limited to those individuals who fall in the Phase 1A or Phase 1B category. Anyone can register, but only those that qualify will be selected from the waitlist to receive the vaccine. Find out more below.

How Do I Register?

Step 1. What You Need to Know

  • At this time, only individuals in Phase 1A and/or 1B categories may receive the vaccine.
  • HCPH is currently only administering the Moderna vaccine, which requires two doses. This vaccine can be provided to individuals 18+ years of age.
  • To assist with social distancing, vaccines will only be provided at "drive-through" locations.
  • Keep in mind that only certain dates will be available and that the current supply of vaccines may be limited.
    • There are a limited number of vaccine doses available.
    • Due to limited supply, it may take weeks to be randomly selected to schedule an appointment.
  • There is no charge for the vaccine or administration.

Step 2. Making An Appointment

  1. Click on the Register Now link to go to HCPH's COVID-19 vaccine app.
  2. Follow the instructions on the app to register for the waiting list to receive your first COVID-19 vaccine. You will be asked a series of questions to determine if you qualify for the current distribution group.
  3. If you qualify, you will be placed on a waitlist to be invited later to schedule your appointment. The current prioritized distribution groups can be found here.
    1. When you have registered to join the waiting list, please allow 15 - 30 minutes for the waitlist confirmation email and text message to arrive after registering.
  4. Once you have been randomly selected from the waitlist, you will be notified via email, text message, and/or phone with a link to schedule your appointment. If you registered by phone and do not have access to Internet, you will be provided a date and time for appointment.
  5. Once the appointment is scheduled, you will receive a confirmation including QR code. You must bring your QR code with you to the scheduled appointment.

Step 3. Receiving Your Vaccine

  1. When arriving to your scheduled appointment...
    • Ensure you have your QR code for staff to scan. This can be printed out or saved to your mobile device as a screenshot from your confirmation email.
    • Follow signs and directions posted to navigate the drive-through clinic.
  2. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to make your appointment and must cancel, you will need to complete the registration process again and be added back to the waitlist. Canceled appointments will not be rescheduled.

Step 4. Scheduling Your Second Dose

  • The vaccine requires two doses to develop the best protection against COVID-19. Upon completion of your scheduled first dose, the system will automatically schedule you for your second dose. You will receive a notification through text and/or email based on the option you specified during registration.
    • Currently, HCPH only administers the Moderna vaccine. If you receive the Moderna vaccine, you will need to wait at least 24 days after your first dose.
